Do I care if you don’t get that they’d rather invest in innovative ways to be creative and simply intricate rather than be tacky and vulgar? No.
Do I give a fuck if you think I’m posting this just for traffic? No.
If you thought the questions which preceded this sentence were anything but rhetorical, you are a DICK.
These two are my IDOLS. They represent two prominent polarities at opposite sides of the Rap spectrum. Their partnership has propelled Hip Hop culture to dizzying heights. They are an absolute partnership in both business and creativity. If you think otherwise, you can shut the fuck up and piss off because I’ve listened to Rap since my conception in the winter of 1984 whilst a bunch of you discovered it a few years ago. I’ve seen many come and go. Yes I know I’m babbling but fuck it. I can write what I feel and I will because you really didn’t have to read this far, did you?
I personally love the way they kept it quintessentially about the live show and energy to keep it simple with sprinkles of luxury i.e the panthers and lions, but kept it archaic with the kaleidoscope.
I FUCKING LOVE THIS!!! … But did you see this one?
I’ve found a new ‘favourite’ artist that I’ll be on the lookout for in 2012!
I was doing the sporadic twitter/soundcloud rounds when I come across this song Maybe I’ll Miss You. At first I didn’t think much of it, I slyly dismissed it but I got to the chorus and I was like “WHAT THE FUCK!? THIS IS A BANGER!”. It was there that I began to share it on my Tumblr blog whilst listening to it and sorta started writing a commentary in real-time. Since posting it I think I’ve listed to it a few dozen times. At first I didn’t know why I loved it so much but then I put my finger on it, she has an angelic vocal timbre similar to Ellie Goulding. It’s also the way Corinne layers her vocals, the harmonies, the ad libs -simply majestic, add that to her overall sound and song choice; an amalgamation of quirky, ‘booty shaking’, feet shuffling electronica (UK Garage), and a piano ballad with sprinkles of manipulated oscillators on a variety of modular, granular, and additive synths -reminiscent of my gaming excursions on Nintendogaming consoles in the late ’80s/early ’90s, it’s no wonder why I’m captivated by this particular song.
Corinne Shields’ Maybe I’ll Miss You has won a place ‘Up In My Ear‘ because she -with the help of a creative collaborator perhaps, has managed to capture the sentiment of nostalgia almost absolutely. Also befitting of the song title and subject matter -WELL-FUCKING-DONE!
Randomly seething through twitter/soundcloud before finding this. Flicked through it and fell in love with it. Not perfect but I’d love it because the chorus is sick and it reminds me of one of those video games, you know the travelling through space in a spaceship on a mission to rescue Zelda…
Pretty much wrote this as I’m listening and I’ve just heard the breakdown… The backing vocals, harmonies are on point. She’s looking for work as a writer so artists and producers get in touch.
The track continues to grow on me with every listen, by the time I got to this sentence I had actually began to listen through all the other tracks.
So for months there’s been a whole heap of back and forth between MCs from London and elsewhere. A lot of it was the typical sort of ‘whatever innit‘ sorta stuff until I saw this…
It got me thinking, have London MCs got too comfortable?
Fair enough Kozzie was victorious against Sox because Sox quit in the first round -according to all reports, but how would Kozzie fare against JaeKae who’s hungry for a hearty meal?
I need to start hearing more Regional Grime because these guys from outta the capital are hungry, I gotta feeling that there’ll be a north vs south kinda of stand off because for too long Londoners have ruled the roost -and gotten decadent in the process. Also with all of the regional producers on the rise, it’s only a matter of time before the MCs storm their way in…
First and foremost I must admit that although I’ve heard of Odd Future and listened to a few of their releases, I have not yet heard any of Tyler‘s official release Goblin. Why did I make that my opening statement, because I felt it important that you know that I’m coming from a listeners perspective. These renditions could of been totally original, named differently, they didn’t even have to tell me it was an Odd Future rendition and I’d still listen and love the music because it’s got a particular sentiment I can identify with.
It’s emotive, sinister, dreamy, pleasant yet nightmarish, the music to me is like taking a walk through my mind on a overcast evening when the sun begins to fade into the horizon and the skies turn orange. Video or no video of the musicians zoning out, I could listen to this, why, because it’s exactly what the likes of Art Blakey, Thelonious Monk, Vince Guardi, Joao Gilberto, Stan Getz, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and many others would do. I could picture the jazz Baroness Nica Rothschild in the midst of the darkest corner puffing smoke from what has become her throne, menthol cigarette attached to the cigarette in mouth soaking up the sounds…
This is evocative music, regardless of who wrote the original pieces, what makes this particular recording special is the way they translated something considered to be far removed from tradition jazz and bebop into a much more elaborate and moving piece of music. I respect these guys highly.
And for the record here’s the original ‘Hip Hop‘ version -well the first rendition I fell in love with- of Electric Relaxation, one of my favourite songs of all time by my favourite band A Tribe Called Quest…
This band are fucking ill! Heavily influenced by early N*E*R*D/Neptunes, they’ve somehow crafted their own sound that makes you want to roll up a phat one and float through space. They’re Odd Future related but that doesn’t stop The Jet Age of Tomorrow standing on their own two feet.
The Jet age of Tomorrow - Matt Martian & Hal (Super 3)
I definitely recommend keeping a close eye on this band as I’ve been a fan since discovering them back in March… Late by release standards but hey. Here’s their self directed/filmed/edited/produced video Wonderland… Enjoy.
Tracks I’d recommend as favourites are ‘Thump Thump’, a sinister synth number, ‘Dust Off‘ featuring Hodgy Beats & Mike G, and ‘Lunchbox‘ featuring Odd Future affiliates Vince Staples and JQ, starting with the opening line..
Good morning say hello to the asshole, I guess I must of smoked all the crack that my dad sold.
Listening to The Jet Age of Tomorrow (also known as Super 3) makes me want to make music, it really is that sort of experience because its not just your bog standard ‘chorus/verse’ its more creative expression. I definitely fuxxx with this sound, being a sci-fi fan with a big imagination, these soundscapes provide me with ample space for my mind to fly… I digress, all I’m saying is give these guys a listen.
I really don’t know how I got here but i think I was looking at a clothing site that was retweeted in my timeline, I clicked on the blog part of their online store before I began browsing before spotting an interesting name ‘Jaz Kahina‘ and another that I’m sure I heard of in the days when Dipset ruled the roost which led to me watching something that reminded me of the Estelle, Tempa, DJ Skitz song. I was glad to hear a fiesty femme-C with a ferocious flow that didn’t sound like she had lifted it from one of the mandem. Excited by what I had witnessed, I headed over to youtube to try and find more freestyles and songs but came up trumps *wahhhh -my attempt at a crying sound effect not that you can even hear the fucking thing but hopefully you read that and associate it with a crying sound that you actually do hear because as you are reading I’m sure you hear the words in your I didn’t quite get why the author thought to elaborate something that didn’t need explaining head*.
So basically I clicked on DJ Slademan and sat through a few vids of him doing the whole ‘record the sample, make the beat, smoke a blunt, use the akai mpc that’s synonymous with the origins of Hip Hop in it’s purest form’ type of thing. *Contrary to my arid less than humourless sarcasm, I sat thru a whole bunch because I really enjoyed them*
I really love what both Slademan and Jaz Kahina are going on with and I look forward to hearing so much more. *I slyly wonder if Slademan can give me some tips on using the Maschine because its quite mind boggling to say the least.
DJ Slademan Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/djslademan
Oh and before I wrap this up, I’m intrigued by the Kahina -where’s the name from, is it arabic, is it a surf thing i.e Kahuna? I ask because had it not been for the name I wouldn’t of pressed play and discover some retro/raw/nostagic Rap music.
I’m sure everyone loves the much more revolutionary and hardcore 2Pac cuts but for me, Round & Round will always be my personal fave. From the opening line to the last 2Pac and Digital Underground represent. I remember 2Pac growing up rolling out with Digital Underground -yea I’m a quarter century kid- so I’ve been rocking this for two thirds of maaa liiiiife… Reallly???
Rest In Peace 2Pac…
Can anyone else see the Big Sean resemblance?
This song shall forever be on my playlist alongside F*ck All Night, Tape You, Watermelon Sundae, and Big Pimpin’
It suddenly dawned on me that I officially finish university after I hand in my last assignment on friday. Since I’ll have a considerable amount of time on my hands, whilst I search for that elusive graduate position that pays a salary rather than getting sucked into a full-time retail position paying a pittance of an hourly rate, I should do some exercise and avoid piling on the pounds whilst watching bullshit daytime TV by taking a course at YouTube. The YouTube 101 is a ten minute course in absolutely anything you want to learn via the search bar. You can learn to sew, play a guitar, cook an omelette, speak another language, or check your lady friends tits for lumps.
Why pay for an expensive course at your local learning centre because you’ve got a part-time job, you’re over qualified, and you’d rather not be in the dole queue with all the local wasters and crackheads to make the concession or free option. More importantly you’d rather dodge the awkward encounter with that girl you went to school with, who was the hottest in the year and now has seven kids with seven different men. This lady in particular is never seen without her cheap counterfeit oversized designer frames, that have seen so much more better days, because she gets knocked about by her new partner Rob -a successful thug/criminal/local drug lord in the bygone era of his late teens, who after being released from a traumatic ten year jail term is a wasteman/alcoholic/whatever-the-fucking-drug-of-choice-at-the-time-of-raiding-the-savings-jar-and-deplating-his-womans-savings-account addict, who constantly walks up and down the high st trying to exchange Farley’s Rusks and SMA powdered milk in exchange for rocks.
Since I own a Macbook; Logic, NI Maschine, USB Controller Keyboard, Condenser Microphone, Tannoy Reveal Studio monitors, Numark Omni Control, Traktor Pro, I thought to myself that now would be a great time to get into music. Rather than make the oddities, and often freestyled in the bath concoctions, which were ‘Swaggalicious’ and ‘Foxy‘, maybe it’s time to get serious and put much more thought into what I’m about to do. Shall I take a course in Electronic music and burn a hole in my pocket in the process, or shall I head over to YouTube where there are 101′s in abundance?
As Dubstep is the closest thing to 140, my favourite tempo and home on Grime central, I thought I’d take a crash course in all things wobbling bass and half steppage.
I enjoyed this class because my tutor was hella-funny, he really rocked out, even introduced us to his cat Mr. Wibbles -or was it a mutt?
Food 101 – How To Make Muffins
Who likes Blueberry Muffins?
Khalid loves Blueberry Muffins!
Is it true?
Ummmhmmm… I do I do when I’m blu-hue!
If truth be told, I searched through clip after clip until I found a half decent tutor because I really didn’t want to cup a droopy set of muffins -I’d rather cup the perkiest of muffins as it goes. *funny ha-ha-ha-laff-a-whole-lot-of-self-joke-perversion-sarcy
Instrument 101 – How To Play Piano
I’m sure this muthafucker means well but he’s too fucking fast!!! I think I stepped into an advanced class. This tutorial is comparable to quantum physics…
I, like everyone else, am a mahooosive fan of Adele. I don’t own an album but I went to her concert because unlike all these ‘I’ll dance and have flashing lights and elaborate videos pr and all round fucked up stunts dress and visuals to distract you from the fact I can’t sing’ starlets, Adele can actually sing. I searched around for hours trying to find a course where I could learn to sing like Michael Jackson, Adele, Amy Winehouse, and whoever else is as far away from sounding average and strangled straing the voice cattish as possible, before encountering this beauty…
Listen muthafuckers!!! If I ever get my hands on a copy of this software in my leisurely summer of YouTube 101s, I’ll be a cross between Chris Brown, Kanye, Weezy, Rhianna, Tulisa, Dappy, and every other annoying twat who over exaggerates the usage. I swear to you all, I’d answer calls, texts, emails, bbm, skype, facetime and voicemail using autotune. I’d write my cv with melodyne, I’d even fucking tucking rucking clucking bombucking ucking kentucking… I really don’t know but I’d rinse that muthafucker dry! Whoever has a copy, send it my way because I don’t think I can justify paying money just to piss about. I’m not a cock!
I dropped out of this class after twenty fucking seconds, I locked off as soon as I heard his voice, boring old fart! If you last the whole eleven minutes, I’d salute you every second of your poor, pathetic existence. This shit reminded me of my Access To Engineering course. I had a twat for a maths teacher and I actually wanted to slap him E-Honda style every monday morning in 2007-08. I passed with flying colours through perseverance, doesn’t mean I dislike arithmetic any less.
Fuck this BULLSHIT!!!
There’s some things you can learn from YouTube, and other things that end up winding you up and confusing the faaark out of you. By the time I got to the computing and maths classes, I actually wanted to punch the living daylights out of my laptop. I was soooo close to throwing it out of the window because I could not understand the language, I could just hear words upon words which meant nothing to me. I dislike overly technical things, especially arithmetic and the lingo.
NIGHTMARE IN TORTUOUS JIBBERISH!!!
I’ve learnt a valuable lesson today, and its made me realise that I’m open to so much things but I instantly lock off when something isn’t delivered in a way that I understand, hence me putting things into analogy as a way to visualise it. Introspection aside… Ima stick to the dubstep tutorials rather than try to be next Stephen Hawking. This ain’t called giving up, it’s called pouring energy into your strengths and what you’re passionate about by letting the mathematicians do their thing whilst I do me; creative wordsmith.
This is the playaz guide to children’s television brought to you by none other than the casanovice himself Count Calvaine.

*Boojis; pretty, prestige, eloquent basically a catch on all levels.

The Count Says:

*There’s plenty more that could of added but since our guest Count Calvaine’s BBM was blowing up, he had to dash off to -as he put it- ‘link some beanage for some sleazage’. I hope you enjoyed our guest contributer, part two soon come…
I’ve only just peeped this comedy and I urge you all to watch it. I think I’ve just seen episode one, where he prints up flyers and creates a website to promote his services to everyones dismay, his mate meets the perfect girl to look like a perv when he gets served his comeuppance…
I couldn’t stop laughing!
This is my new favourite show!!!
^_^
(Better get to watching the first episode because I viewed the second)
If I had a time machine I’d make a b-line for Lisa lisa, and I’d take her home…
If I went to rave and they dropped this, I’d be tearing up the floor! Trust me!!! Big badaman tunage!
This song has been sampled endless times but none beat the original!
This song is special, these guys are supercool!!! There’s even a cheesy saxophone solo and the lead singer sounds like a pretentious twat but I’ve always secretly wanted to sing just like him.
“Holding Back the Years” is the 7th track on Simply Red‘s debut studio albumPicture Book. The song was a huge success for the group and quickly rose to the top of charts across the world. The single is one of two Simply Red songs (the other being their cover of “If You Don’t Know Me by Now“) to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100, for the week ending July 12, 1986. It also reached #2 in the UK and was a worldwide hit. It had initially been released in the UK the year before, but only reached #51.
I’ve always loved this song, reminds me of my childhood and a bunch of other things. Mick Hucknall will always be my hero…
Yo! If it were up to me I’d play this on repeat, and singalong all fucking day! The thing about 80s music is that its pretentious cheesy cool!
I had to save the best till last!!!!!!!!!! This is my jammmm!!! I copped it on vinyl from a thrift store a few years ago too ^_^
No song ain’t fucking with this!!! Trust me!!! I actually frrl like I’m round Julie’s, my childminder, back in ’88.
These are all songs which shaped my childhood, they carry a nostalgic and powerful sentiment, instantly conjuring the feel and visions of the past. I find that now I’m grown I can appreciate these songs for the masterpieces that they are.
