The Weeknd is a Toronto-based R&B singer named Abel Tesfaye. Songs recorded under The Weeknd name first leaked in late 2010, though the identity of the individual behind the project was initially unknown. The Weeknd released a nine-song album, House of Balloons, on 21 March 2011. (wiki)

House of Balloons has been floating around for the same amount of time as Frank Ocean’s Nostalgia, Ultra. This guy seems to be more elusive than Wiley and Waldo because there’s virtually no information on him whatsoever, just the traces of music he leaves behind…

In all honesty, I downloaded and forgot about this album until I stumbled upon the unofficial visuals earlier this evening.

What You Need is the strongest track I’ve listened to thus far, it captures that seductive sentiment -hence being on loop in a dark room whilst I’m in the zone (funny-ha-ha but naaaa apt for those seductive situations).

I suggest you download the album and give it a listen, because it’s proper spaced out, sparse, mellow ‘R&B’. Inspiring and thought provoking to say the least.
